What’s The Best Way to Establish a Target Market?
The surefire way to establish a target market is to do the research and find out as much as you can about the people you want to sell to.
Create a targeted profile
This is where key demographics come in; for example, age, location, income, education and occupation. These are just a few of the core markers you can look at.

“Try not to think of keeping a targeted profile as excluding anyone,” advises online marketing strategist Tommy Walker, “but rather keeping your messaging focused on the people who will make the most impact.”
So you could perhaps select a couple of markers to initially establish a target market and then a few secondary markers to really hone in on your particular customer.
Answer essential questions
Essentially, you’ll want to understand the problem your product solves and then figure out who would be willing to pay for it. Although this sounds difficult, it really isn’t.
First, ask yourself some questions about the product itself. For one thing, what are you selling? And, for another, what makes it unique from the competition?
These questions, and your answers to them, may lead you to additional insights about your product, including its benefits.
Next you’ll want to further research your targeted profile in order to understand their personalities, attitudes, values, interests, lifestyles, and the like.
This will help you answer more questions such as, what do they buy? And, what motivates them to buy?

Employ empathy and familiarity
You can get to know your target customers’ core attributes by being empathetic and understanding what’s important to them.
Simply put, when you tap into their Inner psychology it helps you become familiar with what makes them tick. Not only that, but it can teach you how to sell in a way that deeply resonates and has them wanting to come back again and again.
“The best way to resonate with a market,” adds Walker, “is to become a reflection of its ideal self.” And this, ultimately, is the essential ingredient needed to establish a target market that can sustain your business for years to come.
